Frequently Asked Questions
Do you guarantee your work?
I guarantee that my work will be done to the very best of my ability. However, editors who guarantee "error-free" work are not being honest with their clients. We are all human, and even editors can look over obvious errors sometimes. What I do promise is that I will be thorough, dedicated, and as precise as possible to ensure your success.
What is your project turnaround time?
The turnaround time for my editing services will vary. A manuscript that is 100,000 words will take significantly longer than one containing 40,000 words. Word count is not the only determining factor; a developmental edit will take much longer than a proofread would. I will be able to provide an estimated turnaround time after reading and evaluating your manuscript.
Do you have submission or formatting guidelines?
I only ask that you send your manuscript as a .docx file and that your font size be AT LEAST 12 point. Font style is completely your choice. If you have to send your manuscript through Google Docs or as a PDF, I will accept that, as I can convert it to Microsoft Word. However, sometimes the format gets distorted when doing this.
Do I have to sign a contract?
If you do decide that you would like to work together, you would have to sign a contract. This contract will cover items such as scope of work, fees & payment, deadlines, terms for cancellation, etc.
If I do have to sign a contract, does it include a confidentiality clause?
Yes, of course. The contract is in place to protect both author and editor and a NDA to protect the work you have done.
Are there any genres or types of writing you do not edit?
I do not edit graphic novels, screenplays, or poetry. *Subject to change*
Do you do sample edits?
Yes, I am currently offering FREE 1500-2000 word sample edits. This free service is offered to see if we (author & editor) are compatible, and it is also a means to discover the type of editing service your manuscript will benefit the most from.
Can I ask follow-up questions after the edit is completed?
Of course. There is no time limit on seeking post-edit help. Once we begin working together, I will be there every step of the way.
Do you accept payment plans?
Currently, I request a 50% nonrefundable deposit once the contract is in place. The remaining amount will be due before a completed manuscript is returned to you.
*This does not apply to the editing packages I offer (Amber, Topaz, and Amethyst packages - more information about these can be found on the Home page.).
**I am currently NOT accepting any payments made through Stripe at this time. All payments must be made through Venmo, Zelle, PayPal, or through an encrypted payment link. If you choose to use Venmo or PayPal, a service fee will be added to the amount due.
Do I HAVE to use the suggestions/edits you've provided?
This is a common question I hear, and I want to assure you that you are not required to implement any suggestions or changes I make. You are the author of your story, and ultimately, every final decision is yours. I am simply here to offer advice and guide you in any way that I can. *Disagreeing with any editorial changes I suggest does not entitle you to a refund.*
